Yes exhibitors are getting angry with Mukesh Ambani. The reason for that is the Jio Cinema app. The distributors are worried that the North industry will go down further as they not only announced that they will stream a new movie every week for free but also show it in practice. Analysts are predicting that this impact is going to be severe on Bollywood as announcements are made including trailers of Shahid Kapoor’s Bloody Daddy and Vijay Sethupathi’s Mumbaikar for free in a gap of just a week.
Because Jio already has a hundred movies and series ready. Even if you wear one a week, two years will pass. But that was not the plan of the Ambani team. If necessary, it is sketching to attract subscribers of other OTTs by streaming two or three times a week. If you don’t want to pay money, you can find free content anyway, so spending hours on the app will result in an investment of crores with billions of views. Jio is not greedy to make profits now
The trade fears that these developments will create a lot of turmoil in the coming days. Pathan is the only blockbuster recorded in Bollywood so far this year. Everything that came after it was sealed. Tu jhuti mai makar hittu. But the box office situation is very bad. South dubbings are also not taken seriously. Chhatrapati has flipped the remake blatantly. When it comes to routine content, Salman Khan is sure to fail. In such a situation, if Jio Cinema offers free schemes like this, will the exhibitors not be upset?
