Mumbai today recorded 11,317 fresh Covid cases, 17 per cent lower than yesterday. The positivity rate is down to 20.6 per cent as compared to Thursday’s 21.73 per cent. Nine deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, official data showes.
Eighty-four per cent of patients registered since yesterday are asymptomatic, the city’s health bulletin said.
However, the city also conducted nearly 13 per cent fewer tests than yesterday 54, 924.
On Thursday, the city had recorded 13,702 cases and six Covid deaths.
While India’s financial capital is witnessing a drop in cases, other big cities are still recording a huge jump in cases every day.
In Delhi, the positivity rate was recorded to be 30 per cent and 24,383 cases were logged, a day it logged the sharpest-ever single day spike of over 28,000 cases.
Bengaluru too also registered over 20,000 fresh infections.
This morning, the central government said 2.64 lakh new infections were recorded in the previous 24 hours from across the country.
Maharashtra yet again logged the highest number of cases (46,406).
The new Omicron variant is said to have led to an unprecedented surge in infections not just in India, but across the world.
